Uzbekistan The ancient silk route

TASHKENT | SAMARKAND | BUKHARA | KHIVA
April 2025

If you’re drawn to the unfamiliar and long for places that still feel undiscovered, Uzbekistan should be up your street. This is a country where the Mughal aesthetic echoes in mosques, mausoleums and madrassahs, where blue tiled domes and minarets rise out of vast squares, and where centuries of Silk Road history linger in the air.

On this 8 night journey, you’ll trace the old trade routes through Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva. Each city has its own rhythm: Samarkand dazzles with grandeur and impressive boulevards, Bukhara charms with its trading domes and Jewish merchants’ homes, Khiva feels like a walled museum untouched by time, and Tashkent reveals the layered reality of a post-Soviet capital and some dazzling designers.

Don’t expect five-star frills everywhere—but do expect a sensory feast. Suzani bedspreads spill out of market stalls, ikat fabrics beckon and artisans still forge scissors and weave carpets with the same patience their ancestors once had. What you take home from Uzbekistan isn’t just a treasure, it’s the story behind it—the feel of a place that is in many ways, the world has not touched.

I recently returned from a 7-day group trip to Morocco organised by Karen Anand, and it was a truly wonderful experience. Everything was thoughtfully planned—from the beautiful, comfortable hotels to the seamless transfers that made travel completely stress-free. The itinerary struck just the right balance between leisure and sightseeing, allowing us to explore Morocco’s rich culture and vibrant cities while still having time to relax and enjoy the surroundings at our own pace. There were also great opportunities for shopping and discovering local markets, which added to the overall experience. Karen’s expertise in gastronomy really shone through, bringing a unique culinary dimension that made the trip even more special. Overall, it was a smooth, enjoyable, and memorable journey that I have was glad to have shared with my mum and a wonderful group and I would highly recommend to anyone else.

Karen planned an incredible 12-person women’s group trip to Morocco for us in October 2025. Morocco had been on my travel list for years, but I always felt overwhelmed by how much I wanted to see and how difficult it would be to plan it all in one trip. Karen did an exceptional job crafting a seamless seven-day itinerary across four cities — no small feat. We visited Marrakech, Fez, Rabat, and Casablanca, and even stopped at a beautiful vineyard on the way to Fez, which was such a memorable touch. We stayed in some of the world’s leading hotels, and every detail was thoughtfully managed, including careful attention to everyone’s dietary preferences and restrictions at each meal. There was also plenty of time for shopping — an essential activity for a group of women! I traveled with my mom, aunt, and sister, but the entire group quickly felt like one big family sharing this special adventure together. Thank you, Karen, for planning such a beautiful and memorable journey.

I have joined Ms Anand in one of her trips to Uzbekistan: a memorable experience to say the least. Comparing with the recollection of other friends that visited the Country with other organisations , it seems that my 10 days are like months compared to them. I had wonderful and true experiences like local antique textiles markets and vodka tasting. This is the magic of KA curated trips: wherever you go you don’t feel an alien but part of the place you are visiting.

I had an amazing time in Morocco thanks to Karen and her team. Such a well organised excursion. The food, restaurants and hotels we stayed in were aptly chosen & lovely, including my absolute favourite, La Mamounia. It was our first stop and really gave us an authentic Moroccan vibe. Thank you again for many new memories and for helping to capture the real essence of Morocco

Our stay at La Mamunia will stand out as simply unforgettable This is not just a hotel but a way of life The incredible lobby with its Berber style centrepiece lighting , their expansive rooms, well designed and stocked , staff so eager to please ,beautifully landscaped gardens with the most heavenly orange blossom scents wafting in the air, the pool purified by ozone not chlorine . Beautiful artefacts and photographs that adorned the corridors of the hotel , stunning photos of celebrities who have stayed there , The list is endless ! The trip was truly great value for money — and thank you for selecting the best hotels; La Mamounia was absolutely magical. Also, a big thank you for curating such amazing meals, even for fussy vegetarians like me! Every detail was meticulously handled, especially all our customisations and personal preferences.
