Planning a trip to Mukteshwar now? Here’s what you need to know before you go

The hills certainly seem to be alive with the sound of sweet music beckoning tourists once more and so we decided on Mukteshwar way up in the hills of Kumaon as our first travel escape in six months.

Where to stay in Mukteshwar, Uttarakhand

Two places I would definitely recommend are Sitla Estate and The Birdcage . At Sitla Estate, the very charming Vikram Maira, trekker, farmer and now hotelier, has built a really stunning boutique hotel with 11 large suites in different buildings overlooking his 40 acre estate of apple orchards and Deodar forest. All the suites have big windows overlooking the Himalayas and they are all a short walk from the 150-year-old little British style bungalow that houses the dining room and library.  The bathrooms are top notch, the food is a treat and you have a very accomplished host to take care of you. The only glitch is getting to Sitla which is a little way off the main Mukteshwar beat. The good news is that you may not want to leave once you get there.
